It’s been a massive flurry of activity the last several weeks. We closed on the property on May 25th and immediately started to clean up and move in. I had a chance to catch up on the blog while working out of town this week – it’s a much-needed rest!
The property has been neglected for the last several months and the house needs some renovation and cleaning. The work looks to be nonstop for the rest of our lives at this point, but that was generally the idea in the first place. This small acreage has a massive amount of potential.
We’ve done so much in a short period of time its hard to know where to start – but aside from moving from our old home to Raven Grove we’ve:
- Painted 75% of the interior of the house (photo’s to come)
- Sat on the deck and enjoyed the warmer and wind free evenings
- Mowed about 2 acres of lawn/brush
- Cleaned up 1 large dumpster of former owners leftover junk – I think we have at least 3 more dumpster loads.
- Started to grow our chickens (we have 8 currently in the shop under a warming lamp)
The animals (Dogs and Cats) have adjusted, the dogs especially love the large area and can more or less run free. Our Great Dane is very clingy so he doesn’t wander and our Lasa Apso is too old to get into trouble. The cats are pissed at being confined indoors.
The wild turkey’s roost in the grove trees – there are at least nine hens, two toms, and a handful of turkey chicks. So far no other wildlife that we have seen. I’ve heard some coyotes at night (hence the pissed confined cats).
I’m thinking about getting a couple of trail cams to place in areas where I’ve seen holes in the fenes just to see what happens to wander through.
