The temperature is dropping and thankfully it’s starting to rain. We aren’t looking forward to the rainy season, but for the sake of the fires around us and the hazardous smokey air, it will help. Of course, forest fires and rain bring other problems like flash flooding and landslides. We continue to be grateful we aren’t inside the fire zones.
Fall is one of my favorite times of year – it always feels cozy and comfortable for me. I appreciate the cooler weather and enjoy the colors and the abundance of harvest fresh food. I look forward to apple cider, the smell of dry leaves, and Harvest festivals.
Our pitiful garden erupted with ripe tomatoes, peppers, and some yellow zucchini while our chickens continue to grow. They aren’t to the laying stage yet, but we have started to let them range the property on their own. We are already planning out our fall/winter garden and prep for next spring to get really serious.
Our fall chore list is pretty long, finishing interior painting, decorating, and kitchen renovation being at the top of the list. We have a ton of property upkeep including trimming berry bushes, pruning the fruit trees, prepping the garden, and making sure the roofs and gutters are ready for the PNW rain.
