It was a busy Saturday – we got several things accomplished today, the biggest was our bees arrived and have been installed in their new homes. We picked them up in the rain about 9 am today and after some work to get some sugar syrup made we loaded the nuc’s on the Razr and took them out to the back tree farm.
The process was easy and they seemed to do well. After a few hours the sun came out for a bit and we could see that several of the girls had been collecting pollen. Looking forward to seeing how this all works out and maybe if we are lucky to get some honey out of the deal this fall.
The bee’s in these nucs are locally raised and are a mix of Carniolan and Italian Bees. Each Nuc is five frames of comb with bees, brood, and a queen. Bridge managed to find the queen in Hive #1 – but we didn’t see her with Hive #2 – but it had a lot of capped brood so looks to be pretty active.
We are planning on setting the empty nucs out as swarm traps to perhaps catch a swarm (either a local swarm or our own if it happens).
