August Already?!?

Summer seems to have just got started and it’s only a few short weeks to the start of fall! It’s been busy and we can’t seem to keep caught up on projects. We still have a ton of work in the barn, arena, and paddock area. Add in an upcoming honey harvest, chick raising, geese, dogs, cats, work, and try to get some getaway time and there aren’t enough days!

We did get some quality time with family in July, my mother built us a fairy garden and we had a fairy move in immediately 🙂 New chicks are growing and Frik and Frak continue to be great entertainment for everyone who visits.

The barn project is moving slowly – we’ve been doing small things to get the back of the stalls completed. e finished the build-up with 2×10’s to give us a more level surface when we get the rest of the paddock drainage and footing delivered. Next up – sliding doors and back walls.

The arena is usable but not great. We have it sectioned off with hot tape (not energized) and plastic poles. We keep it graded out so it’s not too rough on horse hooves – but it still needs some sand to soften the impact. We ended up shoeing Rivian this summer just to keep his feet healthy.

Riding – I’m getting a little more comfortable, aside from riding in the pasture – we made it out to a set of horse trails. I rode and Bridge walked Rivian (He was too nervous). All went well.
