New Chicks

As time goes by when farming – you will eventually lose chickens to predators. Our owl from last year came back and took out two of them recently – our favorite Terrance and one of the Rode Island Reds. This leaves us with 5 hens and the 2 roo’s.

Time to get new chicks! Bridge found some pretty spectacular birds at Wilco – Sapphire Blue Plymouth Rock’s. These are a cross hybrid breed that has blue-gray and even lavender-colored feathers. Pictures make them out to be very interesting. Click here for an image of what they may look like. We bought six of them, one of them is very light gray and we are calling her Isolt. There is another of the darker ones that keep escaping we are calling Agnes.

These chicks were much younger than our others and seem to be smart and are easy to handle. Best of all they will give us the dark brown large eggs we like.

Bridge had them out in the yard with her and Frik and Frak were quite jealous and made quite a racket. Frak even bit Bridge on the toe!
