Bridge has been showing in Working Equitation her 14-year-old Off-Track Thoroughbred (OTTB), Port Stanley. While Stanley definitely has a few more years to give to the Working Equitation sport he will eventually need to slow down and move into retirement.
We weren’t really looking to add another horse to the mix, but it makes sense in the aspect that one must prepare for the future. It takes a good solid 3-4 years before a young horse is rideable and well suited to new things so the timing is appropriate to work toward the successor.
Bridge is a friend with Julie Alonzo the owner/operator of Caballos Del Corazon breeder of Andalusian/Lusitano horses. Not coincidently, Julie is who introduced Bridge to the sport of Working Equitation. Stanley has been hanging out at her barn for some focused training and suggested one of her colts to Bridge as a potential new acquisition.

Meet CDC Amante, He is a Lusitano/Cheval Canadien gelding. Amante was born July 2, 2019, is the crossing of RL Duchesa, a buckskin Lusitano mare and Metistar Taj*Mahal Amaro a Palomino Cheval Canadien stallion. Both Duchesa and Amaro are beautiful high-quality horses with excellent backgrounds.

Amante is now our fourth horse, fortunately, he will be staying at Julie’s barn for a while yet as we don’t really have full facilities for four horses (we are working on it though). This gives him time to work directly with both Bridge and Julie as well as learn how to be a horse in a larger herd environment.
We will spend the next couple of years doing ground training for the basics, leading, walking, running, stopping, waiting, trailers, other horses, etc. Eventually as he grows he will have some specialty training from a qualified trainer to help him reach his potential. That will likely occur in 3-4 years.
We are excited to see what comes of this handsome, happy, and super intelligent young gelding!
