Rivian is our sweet but spooky second throughbred. He was born in April of 2011 in Washington. His registered name is Miners Night but when he came to us he was simply “Jeff” our son came up with the name Rivian. Rivian had 28 starts with 3 firsts, 4 seconds, and 3 thirds for a total of $26,651 in earnings.

His last race was in 2016 in Grants Pass Oregon. Rivian wasn’t a major competitor and a discussion Bridgett had with one of his previous owners they felt he didn’t quite have the right spirit for racing. We know that at some point he ended up with a knee injury (he limps from time to time and has a swollen knee).

Rivian ended up at the Eugene Horse Auction for around $150. This was the first horse Bridgett went to look at and ended up with both Rivian and Stanely while I was in Minnesota on Business.

Rivian is a sweet gentle horse when he is calm. However, he spooks very easily and he has reared up in crossties while in the barn causing us some concern. His temperament makes him a bit less usable, even though Bridgett would really like to ride him and give him some sort of job.

When he came to us he was very undernourished and has rebounded quite well. As he is the herd nerd he is third in the pecking order (sometimes fourth depending on Amante’s disposition for the day). He is a great pasture companion for the others.
